The Site Quantico National Cemetery first became operational in 1981, as one of seven new regional cemeteries established to succeed Arlington. It contains several hundred acres of beautiful Virginia landscape. The intent is to keep as much of this natural beauty intact as possible and the desire is to erect monuments and memorials which are as landscape-compatible as possible. Quantico is known as the home of the Marine Corps and although all national cemeteries are open to all branches of the Service, QNS is rapidly becoming known as the Marine Corps Cemetery. Considerable time was spent at the Memorial Pathway where our present plaque is located. A beautiful spot was found at the top of the horseshoe, contiguous to the Edson's Raiders Memorial. It is secluded and will be connected to the Memorial Pathway with another path. We are very fortunate to have this site selected and approvedby the NCS.
