Quantico Memorial History In 1994, we set in motion a program to place suitable plaques in a few national cemeteries, responding to the Membership's increasingly-asked question, "What are we doing to commemorate our 58th Anniversary?" One of the sites selected was Quantico National Cemetery. R dedication ceremony was held on October 5th, 1995, with about too members and guests on hand. Everyone in attendance was impressed with the beauty, serenity and hallowed qualities of this site. Most of us commented on the potential to expand our memorial plaque to suitably honor the 6th Marine Vision and 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, particularly those of our buddies who gave their lives for their Country and the Marine Corps. President Pete Howell announced OPERATION PROJECT, with the objective of forming a committee to formulate a long-range plan for erecting suitable memorials/monuments to our Division. He appointed De Joralemon chairman. The committee was formed and it was decided to put first emphasis on Quantico National Cemetery, with other considerations to follow. Not only does Quantico offer a beautiful setting, it is the de facto successor to Arlington National Cemetery (Arlington is full) and Quantico is the home of the Marine Corps. This is the most logical and suitable place to 'TELL OUR STORY'.
