Can you help identify this Marine?

Please help us reunite this man with his son. We are not even sure of his name, please e-mail us if your recognize him or anything about these photos strikes you at all.

The ribbons on his uniform undoubtedly are indicative of where he may have served, or battles he may have been involved in, and thus may help us to narrow down our search. Click here for a blow up of the ribbons.

Or perhaps you may recognize the area in which the 2 photos below may have been taken. The cut off pants may be a clue.

We have very few clues, aside from these photographs to go on. Can you help? E-mail us with ANYTHING you can think of.

Facts:

mother's name: Lilian Stokes, from Omaha, NE
birth certificate lists father as Fred Pettey, occupation: Marine. Mr. Pettey and was located, but he was never in the Marine, thus was definitely not the man in the photographs above
must have been stationed in San Diego, CA in September to October of 1944

Clues:

a Marine in Oregon with the 8th Defence Bn. said he thought the picture was Jack Bagby with whom he'd served on Wallis Island in 1942-43. However, upon tracking down the family in Arkansas, pictures were exchanged and it was not the right person
